چکیده
Summary Converting the greenhouse gas CO2 into higher alcohols (HAs) via hydrogenation reaction requires more attention in C1 chemistry because C2+ alcoholic products are value-added chemicals as fuel additives, solvents, and intermediates. However, chemical inertness of CO2, complexity various routes, uncontrollability C–C coupling from untamed surface moieties alcohol synthesis (HAS) make this approach very challenging to achieve. In review, we summarize analyze recent advances catalytic HAS direct hydrogenation. The first section highlights potential promising catalyst families, including a noble-metal class catalysts, modified Co-based Cu-based Mo-based catalysts with roles promoters supports specified each case. second reviews possible mechanisms based on previous experimental results. rational design ideal systems for is discussed third section.

Can a heterotrophic organism be evolved to synthesize biomass from CO2 directly? So far, non-native carbon fixation in which biomass precursors are synthesized solely from CO2 has remained an elusive grand challenge. Here, we demonstrate how a combination of rational metabolic rewiring, recombinant expression, and laboratory evolution has led to the biosynthesis of sugars and other major biomas...
